Have You Tried Max’s Sugar Glazed Donut Recipe?

Every great donut maker needs their go-to donut sugar glaze; this one is my absolute favorite sugar glazed donut recipe. You can use this as your base for any flavor you like! I leave it a bit on the thick side so that you can add extracts, compounds, coloring, etc. The possibilities are endless!

Making The Perfect Sugar Glazed Donut:

This sugar glazed recipe will go very well with my Perfect Yeast Raised Donut Recipe I posted earlier. Even though it is one of the simplest to make, it is also one of the most important and easiest to mess up!

Below you`ll find easy as 1-2-3  instructions on how to make my sugar glaze for the perfect sugar glazed donut. My sugar glazed donuts have been featured on multiple outlets including Thrillist and several variations using different flavors such as Vanilla are currently being sold across America. Now you can make this at home and impress some of your friends!


  1. Paddle together the melted butter, vanilla paste and all of the powdered sugar until a smooth paste is formed. Let mix for 2 min on high to remove any and all lumps.
  2. Add the remaining liquid in thirds, making sure to turn off the mixer when adding each addition.
  3. Scrape and mix until smooth and no there are no lumps. Take your time and focus for that perfect thick glaze.

Max’s tip:

  • Substitute the milk for any other liquid to create a different flavor. i.e. coffee, strawberry puree, lemon juice, etc. Try a few and let me know how they go!

  • 3 Pounds - Powdered Sugar
  • 1 Pound - Butter, melted
  • ½ Cup - Milk
  • ½ Cup - Water

    Wow Max! I’m so trying this. Can this be done with coconut sugar?
